Commercial Redevelopment The redevelopment of C. D. Howe’s Commercial levels commenced in May of 2009. Completion of the first Phase of the work is scheduled for early 2010, at which time the new “look and feel” of the redesigned shopping mall will appear as construction hoardings are taken down and relocated for the second phase of the work. The new entrance pavilion at the Kent Street entrance will be opened at the same time, restoring access to the building from the west. The Commercial Redevelopment project is a four-phase modernization of the 3 retail levels (now renamed levels C1, C2, and C3). Much of the new work will be very visible, with new floor, wall and ceiling finishes, as well as new lighting¸ retail storefronts, signage and washrooms, all providing a contemporary shopping mall experience. Behind this new image, the commercial level mechanical and electrical systems are also being re-furbished in order to provide improved efficiency in building operations and energy consumption.
